Global banks BNP Paribas and HSBC have completed the first corporate treasury payments using Swift\u2019s blockchain-based ledger for Siemens.<\/p>\n
The transaction moved money from Siemen\u2019s euro account with BNP in France to HSBC\u2019s sterling account in the UK.<\/p>\n
The pilot transaction tested if Swift\u2019s shared ledger could reach across banking systems whilst preserving commercial bank money used by corporates.<\/p>\n
The pilot follows the completion of the first live tokenised deposit transaction in August, between HSBC and Standard Chartered.<\/p>\n
Cross-border payments network Swift launched it’s blockchain-based shared ledger in September 2025, and completed its design phase in March 2026. The ledger enables interbank payments using blockchain and tokenised deposits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Pierre Fersztand, global head of cash management, payments, trade solutions, and factoring at BNP Paribas, said: \u201cThis is a significant milestone in the evolution of cross-border payments. This achievement reflects BNP Paribas\u2019 ongoing collaboration with Swift to shape the next phases of the ledger\u2019s development. By supporting this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to industrialising digital finance at scale.\u201d<\/p>\n Lewis Sun, global head of digital currencies at HSBC, said: \u201cCollaborating with BNP Paribas and Swift on this first live corporate treasury tokenised deposit payment for Siemens is a major step forward for real-world, cross-bank digital settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n The successful transaction marks the efficacy of cross-currency blockchain transactions and interbank liquidity and settlement. Blockchain payments entering the traditional banking system indicates its integration into mainstream global payments.<\/p>\n Raphael Marek, head of France and Benelux at Swift, commented: \u201cWe\u2019ve worked at pace to develop a shared blockchain-based ledger that is designed for interoperability from the start, enabling tokenised deposits to scale across the secure, resilient and trusted financial ecosystem.
